User Guidance
1. School of the Faculty of Science Common Library | |

1-A. Open Hours | Monday–Friday: 9:00–20:00 (9:00–16:45 for visitors) *9:00–17:00 on weekdays during school vacations. *The Study Room is open 9:00–20:00. |
1-B. Closures |
Library closure days include: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, year-end holidays (December 29 to January 4), Foundation Anniversary Day (June 18), and summer holidays (Monday through Wednesday of the third week of August). |
1-C. Loan Period and Number of Books Out at a Time | Books: 2 weeks, 5 books (reservation and loan extension allowed). Magazines: 3 days (most recent issues cannot be on loan). DVDs: 3 days (a maximum of 3 DVDs at a time). Some DVDs cannot be on loan. |
1-D1. Borrowing Procedure | Loan items can be borrowed by presentation of the student IC card, authentication IC card, professor emeritus IC card, or Kyoto University library card at the reception counter or self-checkout machine. |
1-D2. Return Procedure | Loaned items can be returned to the reception counter or self check-in machine during open hours, you can return materials to the book drop located the entrance of Building No. 6(South) anytime. |
1-E. Library Floor Map | First Floor: Books, new arrivals, references, latest journals, audiovisual resources, etc. Basement Floor: Journal back numbers, open-stack and locked-cabinet collections, etc. |
1-F. Photocopying | No copy machine in the library. After completing the borrowing procedure, please make copies at your laboratory, the Co-op, or a convenience store, etc. |
1-G. Search Computer | There are two dedicated catalog search terminals in the Library: one on the first floor (close to the large book shelves), and the other on the basement floor. |

2-B. Other university Libraries | We receives requests filed by Faculty of Science students to access other university/college libraries. *Permission to visit other university libraries is granted for students who want to access a particular item. |
3. Student Purchase Request | |
Faculty of Science students have the privilege to request the purchase of a maximum of five books per year. | |
4. Access to Precious or Rare Items | |
Items that are stored in the BF Natural Science Stacks are classified as precious or rare. Individuals wishing to access them must ask permission in advance by email. | |
5. Items Stored at Related Facilities | |
Immediate access cannot be granted to the items stored at the following facilities: Astronomical Observatory, Data Analysis Center for Geomagnetism, Institute for Geothermal Sciences, and Aso Volcanological Laboratory. Access to some of these items may be completely refused | |
6. Other Services | |
6-A. Cross-Campus Delivery | The KULINE platform may be used to request items from other KU libraries, extend the loan period, order ILL copying, or submit an ILL request. |
6-B. Access to Other KU Libraries | Books and other items stored at the KU campus libraries other than those of the North and Main Campuses can be delivered to you. |
6-C. Return Service (Cross-Campus) | Books and other items loaned from the KU campus libraries other than those of the North and Main Campuses may be returned to the reception counter of the School of Science Main Library. Similarly, books and other items loaned from the School of Science Main Library may be returned to the reception counter of other KU campus libraries. |
