The tiger keelback (Rhabdophis tigrinus) sequesters anti-predator defensive compounds from toads (Bufo), which are consumed as prey in addition to other amphibian prey. Females of R. tigrinus are able to produce chemically defended offspring by provisioning the toad-derived toxins to their eggs. Females of R. tigrinus switch foraging behaviors according to the seasons and selectively forage for toads during gestation.
