Former Prof. Kajuro Tamaki taught theoretical physics at the Kyoto University (KU) Undergraduate School of Science. He passed away at age 53 while still holding the position. Thirty years after his passing, his family followed his will and donated a large sum of money for the purpose of encouraging academic activities. KU decided to use the donated funds to hold annual open lectures. The first meeting was organized in Fall 1969. Researchers from various disciplines have been chosen to present cutting-edge findings and future perspectives of science.

This lecture series attracts experts, students, and a small number of lay people with interest in academic talks.
