The Japanese fire-bellied newt (Cynops pyrrhogaster) possesses tetrodotoxin (TTX) in the skin and other organs. The Japanese four-lined rat snake (Elaphe quadrivirgata) presumably attempted to ingest the newt and died due to TTX poisoning.
